I love seafood pasta, especially with shellfish. Most restaurants serve cream sauce which I don’t love. I had a taste for mussels today after talking with my dad. He had mussels in a restaurant and was telling me how the waitress waited on Willie Nelson a few days earlier. I went to the store, and they didn’t have fresh mussels, but I did find frozen mussels without the shell on sale, so I figured why not give it a try?
I have to admit I thought this came out amazing. So I wouldn’t change a thing. At the last minute, I added a dash of crushed red pepper and oregano. For some reason, I had an image of Robert Irvin criticizing the lack of spice when he went into a struggling restaurant. I’m never one who neglects to spice up a dish. If there was one change to consider for this recipe, it might be good spicy. I might use more red pepper next time.
Spicy Mussels Marinara Is Also Great Using This Recipe
I realized after tasting this dish that this particular recipe might be even better spicy. If you love spicy foods, add a generous amount of crushed red pepper when adding the tomato sauce.
Are mussels marinara healthy?
Compared to other types of shellfish, mussels have higher levels of omega-3 nutrients. According to the American Heart Association, Omega-3s are important to reduce the health risks of heart disease, depression, dementia, and arthritis and improve overall happiness. Fatty fishes like anchovies have the highest levels of omega-3 but a 3-ounce serving of mussels contains 665 mg of omega-3, which ranks in the top 10 of the most popular seafood available from the market.
